Flashcards in Anatomy- The peripheral Nervous Sytem & Reflex Activity Deck (34):
1

Sensory Receptors: Thermoreceptors

Response to temperature change.

2

Sensory Receptors: photoreceptors

Respond to light energy

3

Sensory receptors: Chemoreceptors

Respond to chemicals in solution(molecules smelled, tasted, change in blood pH)

4

Sensory Receptors: noicereceptors

Respond to pain from potentially damaging stimulus.

5

Exteroreceptors

Sensitive to stimuli arising outside body(touch, pressure, pain)

6

Interoreceptors

a sensory receptor that detects stimulus within the body.
Example: Blood Pressure

7

Proprioceptors

Respond to internal stimuli in skeletal muscle, tendons, joints

8

Nerve:

Cordlike organ of PNS consisting of bundles of axons enclosed in layers of connective tissue

9

Sensory(afferent) nerves

Carry impulses toward CNS

10

Motor(efferent) nerves:

Carries impulses away from CNS

11

Mixed nerves

Contains both motor and sensory

12

Peripheral nerves can be classified as____ or ______

Spinal nerves r or cranial nerves

13

Ganglia

Collections of neuron cell bodies associated with nerves in PNS

14

Sensory Receptors: Mechanoreceptors

Respond to touch, pressure(including blood pressure), vibration, stretch and itch.

15

Cranial Nerve: I.

I. Olfactory- purely sensory(associated with sense of smell)

16

Cranial Nerve: II

II. Optic Nerve

Sensory- deals with vision

17

Cranial Nerve: III

III. Oculomotor

- Motor- eye movement

18

Cranial Nerve: IV

IV. Trochlear
- motor-
Turns eye downward and laterally

19

Cranial Nerve V:

V. Trigeminal
Both
chewing face, mouth, touch & pain

20

Cranial Nerve VI.

VI. Abducens
Motor
Turns eyes laterally

21

Cranial Nerve VII:

VII. Facial
- both -
most facial expressions
secretion of tears & saliva
taste

22

Cranial Nerve: VIII.

VIII. Vestibulocochlear

- sensory-
hearing, balance

23

Cranial Nerve: IX

IX. Glossopharyngeal

- mixed- (taste, tongue, tonsil, muscles for swallowing)

24

Cranial Nerve: X

X. Vagus
Both
aortic blood pressure
slows heart rate ,stimulates digestive organs,
taste

25

Cranial Nerve: XI

XI. Accessorysenses

controls trapezius & sternocleidomastoid
controls swallowing movements
Motor

26

Cranial nerve: XII

XII. Hypoglossal
-controls tongue movements
Motor

27

Spinal Nerves: how many pairs?

31

28

Cervical Plexus:

Cranial Nerves C1-C5;supplies skin and muscles of head, neck, shoulders and chest.

29

Brachial Plexus:

Cranial nerves C5-T1

Supplies shoulders & upper limbs

30

Lumbosacral Plexus

Lower limb, breaches to pelvis, abdomen, & buttocks.

31

Lumbar Plexus

Spinal nerves L1-L4, supplies buttocks and lower limbs

32

Coccygeal plexus:

Spinal Nerves S4-Co Serves the coccyx bone

33

Reflexes: Somatic reflexes

Lead to contraction of skeletal muscles.

34

Reflexes: Autonomic (visceral) reflexes:

Lead to response from smooth muscle, cardiac muscle & glands.
