Animal Defence 2 Flashcards
(7 cards)
General explanation of specific immunity
T cell receptors and antibodies bind to non-self antigens
Self markers
Allow the immune system to identify self and non-self Ags
Humoural immunity response
Cell surface antigen undergoes phagocytosis, phagocyte binds to T helper cels, which stimulates B cell to produce antibodies
Cellular immunity response
Surface antigen undergoes phagocytosis, phagocyte binds to T helper cell, stimulates Tc cell which induces apoptosis in original affected cell
Primary immune response
Ag first countered, naive lymphocytes proliferate
Secondary immune response
Ag encountered again, memory cells proliferate
Antibody anatomy
Heavy chain and light chain, each with constant and variable regions, Ag binding site
