Egg to Organism Flashcards
(8 cards)
Gastrulation
Primate streak forms, extending towards primitive node, these move towards buccopharygeal membrane of blastocyst
3 germ layers
Epiblast splits into ectoderm, endoderm, and mesoderm
Neurulation
Ectoderm induced to neuroderm, creating neural plate which expands rapidly and begins to fold in on itself until the neural tube is formed (creating CNS)
Closure of neural tube creates…
Body axis (mouth end and anal end)
Lateral plate folding
Endoderm splits off and the enclosed section becomes the wall of the gut, this folding creates the 3D embryo who’s structure is widely known
Phylotypic stage
Stage where most animal embryos look the same
Hox genes
Control development, activated by retinoids acid (vitamin A)
Segments and Hox genes
Particular Hox genes specify different regions of the embryo
