What does the peripheral nervous system include?
Everything outside of the central nervous system like cranial and spinal nerves
The bundle of axons in the peripheral nervous system is called?
A nerve
The group of cell bodies in the peripheral nervous system is called?
A ganglion
What is the somatic nervous system responsible for?
Operates the muscles of the body and the sensory neurons that
bring information into the central nervous system.
What is the autonomic nervous system responsible for?
Regulates general body activity and internal activity like organs
How is the autonomic nervous system separated?
The parasympathetic and sympathetic nervous system
What is the parasympathetic nervous system responsible for?
Reducing arousal and helps the body restore energy (like calming us down).
What is the sympathetic nervous system responsible for?
Arousal and setting the body into fight or flight
What is proliferation?
The birth(neurogenesis) and division of neurons
What is migration?
When neurons move up radial glial cells to new locations
What is circuit formation?
When neurons send processes to target cells to form functional connections
What are the 2 common brain injuries?
Strokes (blood clots in the brain) and TBI
What is reorganization?
A shift in connections that alters the function of an area in the brain
What is regeneration?
The growth of severed axons but does not happen in mammals
What is neurogenesis?
The birth of neurons
