Dimethyl Glycine Flashcards
(6 cards)
What is Dimethyl Glycine (DMG)?
DMG is trimethyl glycine (betaine) after it has donated one methyl group during the methylation of homocysteine and only exists for seconds at a time.
What is the main therapeutic use of Dimethyl Glycine (DMG)?
DMG is primarily used in the treatment of autism, improving behavior, eye contact, frustration tolerance, speech, and reducing seizures.
What is the typical starting dosage of DMG for preschool-aged children?
65 mg daily with breakfast for preschool-aged children.
What is the recommended dosage range for older children and adults taking DMG?
Older children: 125 mg daily. Adults: 250–1000 mg daily, gradually increasing the dose to 500 mg for children and up to 1000 mg for adults.
What should be done if an increase in hyperactivity occurs when taking DMG?
If hyperactivity increases, the dosage should be decreased.
How does DMG compare to TMG for autistic patients?
DMG is better tolerated than TMG for autistic patients.
