What is a hazardous substance?

Answer 1

Anything that is:

Explosive
Flammable
Can oxidize
Corrosive
Toxic
Has Eco toxicity

Or on contact with air or water can do all of the above

What is a new organism?

Answer 2

An organism belonging to a species that was not in New Zealand before July 1998

A genetically modified organism

One that has specifically been identified and qualified

And organism that has been eradicated

What would an emergency be?

Answer 3

Imminent danger to human health or safety

A significant danger to the environment with channels

And wear immediate action must be taken

What are our emergency powers under section 137 of the hazardous substance and organisms act when an emergency has been declared?

Answer 4

Where an emergency has been declared:

Enter enter premises

Direct any person to actions that contribute to the emergency

Direct any person to leave

Restrict access to the vicinity

Requisition property for use in the emergency

Destroy any property

Secure the site for up to 24 hours

How should an emergency be declared?

Answer 5

Identify yourself

State the authority to exercise emergency powers

Announce the nature of the emergency and the area

Question 6

How long can an emergency last when declared under the section?

Answer 6

48 hours

Or until the state of emergency is declared

Or until the emergency is treated by FENZ

Or until it has been extended for another period of 48 hours under the same section
