What bones contribute to Proximal radioulnar joint
Radius (head) and ulna.
What type of joint is the radioulnar joint and what movements does it allow?
Pivot synovial. Rotation = supination and pronation of the forearm. Works with the
distal radioulnar joint.
What parts of the radius and ulnar are articulating at the Distal radioulnar joint
Distal head of ulna, ulnar notch of radius
Based on what you know about movements of the forearm, what classification of synovial
joint is the distal radioulnar joint?
Synovial pivot joint, uniaxial. Works with the proximal radioulnar joint. Allows rotation =
supination and pronation of the forearm.
In which direction do the upper fibers run and what is their concentric action on the
pectoral girdle
Superiorly and medially (superomedially). Pulls pectoral girdle upwards = “elevation”
In which direction do the middle fibers run and what is their concentric action on the
pectoral girdle?
Transversely/horizontally. Pulls scapula backwards = “retraction”
In which direction do the lower fibers run and what is their concentric action on the
pectoral girdle?
Inferiorly and medially (inferomedially). Pulls scapula downwards = “depression”
Name two exercises you could perform at the gym to target the trapezius.
Shrug, push press, rows, pull ups, chin ups…
What are the general attachment sites of the pectoral gridle and trapizius
Skull - vertebrae - clavicle - scapula
Due to its anterior attachment to the scapula, what is the concentric action of the pectorials minor
Pulls the scapula forwards = “protraction” Due to its anterior attachment to the scapula, what is the concentric action of
Which two of these muscles are also associated with the elbow joint, and movement of the
forearm?
Biceps brachii and triceps brachii.
What are the concentric actions of the anterior, middle and posterior fibres of the deltoid
on the glenohumeral joint?
Anterior: shoulder flexion
Middle: shoulder abduction
Posterior: shoulder extension
What are the general attachment sites of pectorials major
Sternum - clavicle - ribs –> humerus
What are the proximal and distal attachment sites of the biceps brachii?
Proximal: scapula (corocoid process, supraglenoid tubercle), Distal: radius (radial
tuberosity)
What aspect of the elbow joint does the biceps brachii cross? What aspect of the shoulder
joint does it cross?
Crosses both joints anteriorly
