What is Leadership?
Leadership is described as a process, act, or form of influence that gets others to do something.
What occurs in Leadership?
It occurs when one person influences others to achieve a goal.
What are the commonalities in definitions of Leadership?
There are many definitions of leadership, but they share some commonalities.
How are Leadership and Management different?
Management is associated with Stability, enforcement, implementation, concrete, and day-to-day activities, while Leadership is associated with Change, innovation, vision, and generation.
What is Supervisory Leadership?
Supervisory leadership is defined as behavior that provides guidance, support, and corrective feedback for day-to-day activities.
What is Strategic Leadership?
Strategic leadership gives purpose and meaning to the organization.
What is required for Effective Leadership?
Effective leadership requires a person willing and capable of influencing others and people willing to be influenced, voluntarily.
What results from Ineffective Leadership?
Ineffective leadership occurs when a person attempts to take charge but can’t influence others, resulting in a lack of followers and no collective action.

No leadership occurs when no one is exerting influence, resulting in the group having no direction and difficulty having collective action.

A vision should express ambition and communicate a standard of excellence and pride in being different from other organizations.

Followership is required for leadership to occur.

Leaders prefer followers with a positive attitude, enthusiasm, industriousness, organization, and loyalty.
What characteristics do leaders dislike in followers?
Leaders dislike followers who are conforming, arrogant, rude, easily influenced, and unwilling to speak up.
What are the three main perspectives on Leadership?
The three perspectives are Traits, Behaviors, and Situational.
What does the Traits perspective focus on?
It views leaders as born, possessing ingrained talent and abilities, focusing on stable attributes like personality and intelligence.
What does the Behaviors perspective assume?
It assumes people can be trained to lead and focuses on the behaviors of specific leaders.
What does the Situational perspective argue?
It argues that effective leadership varies by situation and there is no one-size-fits-all approach.
