lecture 4 PNS Flashcards
Peripheral Nervous System Somatic Division
PNS provides the CNS with sensory information, CNS then tells the PNS what to do.
somatic = voluntary
2 anatomical divisions of PNS
cranial nerve
spinal nerve
two subdivisions of PNS
somatic- voluntary- muscles (somite derived tissues)
autonomic- involuntary -visceral structures
ANS has three subdivisions
parasympathetic
sympathetic
Enteric
Make up of vertebral column
C1-7
T1-13
L1-7
Sacrum 1-6
Brachial Plexus is which nerves
C6-T1-2
lumbarsacral plexus is what nerves
L4 to S3
dorsal branch is a ___ nerve
mixed
ventral branch is a ___ nerve
mixed
ramus communicans is a ___ nerve
mixed
dorsal root is a ____ nerve
sensory
from body to brain
ventral root is a ___ nerve
motor
brain to body
dorsal root ganglion is on ___ nerves
sensory
off spinal cord before it becomes the ventral ramus/branch (mixed nerve)
dorsal root ganglion branch into
dorsal rootlets
a nerve is a ___ wrapped in ___
bunch of axons
epinerium
axons are wrapped in ____
perinerium
nerve fibers are wrapped in
endonerium
nerve make up
epinerium- surround group of axons (whole nerve)
perinerium- surround axon
endonerium- surround nerve fibers
pseudounipolar
sensory neuron
dorsal root ganglion
sensory input from body -> soma (cell body) –> synapses
sensory axons from somatic tissue- somatic nervous system
somatic afferent fibers (SA)
Afferent =Come from Away to brain
sensory axons from visceral tissue- autonomic nervous system
visceral afferent fibers
motor axons to skeletal muscle SNS
somatic efferent fibers
motor axons to smooth muscle, cardiac muscle, glands and adipose tissue
visceral Efferent fibers
nerves of brachial plexus
SSMARMU
subscapular suprascapular musculocutaneous axillary radial median ulnar
