How does movement occur
When the muscles contract, making the tendons running over the joint exert a force on the bones, causing movement
Flexion
DECREASE in the angle between two bones
Extension
INCREASE in the angle between two bones
Supination
Turning of the forearm and hand so the palm faces UPWARDS
Pronation
Turning of the forearm and hand so the palm faces DOWNWARDS
Circumduction
The circular movement of a limb
Rotation
A body part turning on its own axis
Dorsi Flexion
Movement which decreases the angle between the foot and the leg. Toes closer to the shin.
Plantar Flexion
Movement which increases the angle between the foot and the leg. Toes further from the shin.
Adduction
Movement TOWARDS the midline of the body
Abduction
Movement AWAY from the midline of the body
