0-60 Degrees
Required Knee Extension
0 Degrees

0-10 Degrees
Required Ankle Plantarflexion

Tibialis Anterior Peak Activation
After heel strike. Eccentric lowering of foot into PF.
Gastroc-Soleus Peak Activation
Late stance phase. Concentric raising heel during toe off.
Quadriceps Peak Activation
Single support during early stance phase and before toe off to initiate swing phase.
Hamstrings Peak Activation
Late swing phase. Decelerating unsupported limb.
Base of Support
Decreases as cadence increases. Average for adult is 2-4in.
Cadence
Average for adults is 110-120 steps/minute.
Degree of Toe-Out
Average for adults is 7 degrees.
Double Support Phase
Time in this phase increases as gait speed decreases. Occurs twice during gait, never during running.
Gait Cycle
Initial contact to initial contact of same foot.
Pelvic Rotation
Opposite to thorax for balance and speed regulation. Average for adults is 8 degrees total - 4 degrees forward in swing leg, 4 degrees backward in stance leg.
Single Support Phase
Occurs twice during gait.
Step Length
Average for adults is 28in.
Stride Length
Average for adults is 56in.
Antalgic
Protective, decreased involved step length to avoid weight bearing.
Ataxic
Staggering and unsteadiness. Typically wide BOS and exaggerated movements.
Cerebellar
Staggering pattern seen in cerebellar disease.
Circumduction
Utilized in swing phase for decreased hip or knee flexion or ankle DF
Double Step
Alternate steps are of different length or rate.
