Outcomes Measures Flashcards
(13 cards)
Fregley-Graybiel Ataxia Test Battery
8 Tests measured on each leg (pass/fail) Measures time in position and # steps without falling 5 Trials Patients with high level motor skills Stand on beam, eyes open Stand on beam, eyes closed Walk on beam, eyes open Sharpened Romberg (static heel-toe) Standing, eyes open Standing, eyes closed SL standing, eyes closed Walk on floor, eyes closed
Berg Balance Scale
14 Tasks Static, transitional and dynamic activities in sitting and standing Scored on 0-4 ordinal scale Max Score: 56 Fall Risk: < 45
Fugl-Meyer Sensorimotor Assessment Of Balance Performance Battery
Assess balance in hemiplegia 7 Items Scored 0-2 Max Score 14 14/14 May still have abnormal balance
Functional Reach Test
3 Trials averaged together High test-retest correlation and intrarater reliability Below age norm = fall risk 20-40 = 14.5 - 17 in 41-69 = 13.5 - 15 in 70-87 = 10.5 - 13.5 in
Romberg Test
Balance and ataxia assessment
Stand feet together, UEs crossed, eyes open
Visual, Vestibular, Somatosensory input to cerebellum
Repeat eyes closed
If unstable, somatosensory or vestibular deficit
Ataxia and (+) Romberg = Sensory ataxia (Not cerebellar ataxia)
Normal = maintain position 30 sec
Sharpened Romberg = Repeat heel-toe, non-dominant foot forward
TUG Test
Sit in supported chair
Stand, walk 10 ft, turn, walk back, sit down
Observe sway, excessive movement, reach for support, side stepping, or other LOB signs
10 sec = Independent
> 20 sec = Increased fall risk
30 sec = High fall risk
Tinnetti Performace Oriented Mobility Assessment
Balance Section: Sit <-> stand Stand EO/EC Stand, slightly pushed Turn 360 degrees Scored 0-2 in most categories Max score 16 Gait Section: Tests at normal and rapid but safe speed Initiation Step length and height Step asymmetry and continuity Path Stance Trunk motion Scored 0-2 Max score 12 Total = 28 < 19 = High fall risk
Mini-Mental Status Examination
Max score 30
21-24 = Mild cognitive impairment
16-20 = Mod cognitive impairment
15- = Severe cognitive impairment
FIM
18 Items of physical, psychological, and social functioning
Postural Assessment Scale for Stroke Patients (PASS)
Assesses postural control and balance in stroke
NIH Stroke Scale
Measures acute cerebral infarction
Stroke Impact Scale
Assesses physical and social function after stroke
Functional Assessment Measure (FAM)
In addition to FIM items, FAM includes additional functional areas: Community access IADLs Safety Employability Adjustment
