recurrent and persistent, intrusive thoughts, urges or images
what are compulsions?
repetitive behaviors or mental acts driven in response to obsessions
this disorder is characterized by repetitive and persistent, time-consuming intrusive obsessions (which individual attempts to ignore or suppress) by means of compulsions

what are the common dimensions of OCD?
common dimensions: cleaning, symmetry, forbidden thoughts (sex/aggression/religion) and harm
what are the specifiers for OCD?
- With good/fair insight
- With poor insight
- With absent insight/Delusional beliefs
what does it mean when an individual has good insight with their OCD?
the individual recognizes that what she is doing is probably not true

their idea is that her thoughts would probably be true

they really are convinced that what they are believing is true
