Flashcards in Pelvic Girdle Deck (17):
1

What are the main functions of the Pelvic Girdle?

Transfer forces from the axial skeleton to the lower limb
Provide attachment for muscles
Protect the pelvic area

2

What 3 bones make up the Hip bone?

Pubis
Ischium - Posterior and Inferior
Ilium - Most superior

3

Where is the Iliac fossa?

On the anterior medial side of the Ilium, concave surface

4

Where is the Gluteal surface?

The posterior side of the Ilium

5

Where is the Iliac crest?

Superior margins thicken, this is the Iliac crest

6

What does the body of the Ischium contain?

The acetabulum

7

Where is the Ischial Ramus?

Projects medially

8

Where is the Ischial tuberosity?

Large projection of bone inferor and posteriorly

9

How many Rami (divisions) does the Ischium have?

One

10

How many Rami does the Pubis have?

Two

11

Where do the two pubis articulate?

The pubic symphysis

12

What does the Superior ramus do?

Joins the Ischium and Ilium at the acetabulum

13

What does the Inferior ramus do?

Joins with the ramus of the Ischium, helps form the obturator foramen

14

What makes Pelvic fractures usually occur together?

The ring structure of the Hip bone

15

What is the most common way of fracturing the Pelvic bone?

Direct trauma

16

Where do fractures usually occur?

Superior and Inferior pubic Rami
Acetabulum
Sacroiliac joint

17

What is a common complication with pelvic fractures?

Soft tissue damage due to the bladder and urethra being close
