Plant Cell Organisation Flashcards
(10 cards)
Name the plant organs
Stems
Roots
Leaves
Flowers
Fruits
Epidermal Tissue
Covers the whole plant
Palisade mesophyll tissue
Part of the plant with the most photosynthesis as it has the most choloroplasts. Near the top of the leaves to absorb the most sunlights
Spongy Mesophyll tissue
Contains large air spaces so gasses can diffues in and out
Xylem and Phloem
Transport minerals, water and food around the plant
Meristem tissue
Found in growing roots and shoots and is able to differentiate into different types of plant cells
Waxy cuticle
Waxy layer on the plant that prevents water loss
Phloem
Columns of elongated cells with small pores to allow cells sap to flow through
Transport dissolved sugars made in the leaves from photosynthesis around the plants
Transports in both directions in translocation
Xylem
Dead cells with no end walls carry water and minerals ions
Strengthened by lignin
Carries water and minerals from the roots to the leaves in transpiration
Transpiration in plants
Caused by evaporation and diffusion in leaves
