Poor relationship with parliament?
1625 marriage to Henrietta Maria challenged which challenged his divine right to

Started off with very poor marriage contract and always opposed over personal decision so a constant distrust. King saw paliament as distrustful and parliament saw him as inexperienced so father the 3rd failed Parliament he stopped trying.
Desire for financial independence
Forced loan - taught him to be financially independent
Five knights case - shows he was prepared to defend financial independence
Tonnage and poundage 1625 - continued to collect it despite parliaments ruling showing finance was a significant issue to him
Challenged royal prerogative like three resolutions showing financial distrust between the two. Driving factor in PR, if he had the money to survive without parliament challenging him then he would dissolve them.
Always planned on a PR
Foreign policy - started off with Mansfield and Cadiz attempted fails caused by parliament underfunding so thought he could better reorganise them on his own.
Appointed Armenians despite the fears of parliament with it shown by three resolutions when they challenged his religious direction. Shows he was prepared to dismiss parliaments ideas.
Levying of ship tax was a possible revenue stream for the king but only used once during parliament because he knew it was controversial. So did it without them.
His religious policy indicated a new direction he wanted to go in and the failed foreign policy missions showed that financial indpendence was needed to tackle structural issues like management of the army.
