Charles 1st
Charles hardened puritan network and Scottish resistance
Laudian reforms alienated Scot’s and puritans.
Ship tax opposed shown by ship money trial.
Attempt on the 5 members proved Charles could not be trusted.
Puritan network
Grand remonstrance - chalres won by 11 votes and gave Charles a support base he lost during the war while creating 2 opposing sides
Militia ordinance - utilised Irish revolt and attempt on the 5 to remove Charles power showing they were not looking for a resolution
19 propositions - harsh set of terms that challenged royal prerogative so had no choice but to fight back
Puritan network challenged Charles authority at every turn which could not go unanswered.
Three kingdoms
The covenant - 60% of Scotlands population signed it with 600,000 poeple which was much more significant than the strength of the puritan network
Bishops wars - ultimately forced the opening of the long parliament which was aided by the involvement of the Puritan network in distributing their propoganda so the yourkshire militia didnt fight for Charles
Irish revolt 1641 - already made Charles sign the triennial act but the Irish revolt gave pym the momentum to issue the grand remonstrance
