Renal Embryo Flashcards
(48 cards)
What is the order of the development of the nephric structures?
- ) urogenital ridge
- ) Nephrogenic cord
- ) Pronephros
- ) Mesonephros
- ) Metanephros
When do the pronephros appear? Where are they located?
Early 4th week. In the cervical region
What do the pronephric ducts run into?
The cloaca
When do the pronephros degenerate?
Day 24-25
What part of the pronephros persist and are used by the mesonephros?
The pronephric ducts
What do the pronephros initiate that is important for the formation of the kidney?
They initiate a cascade of development
When do the mesonephros appear? Where?
Late 4th week. Caudal to the pronephros
What two important structures do the mesonephros contain? Which forms first?
The mesonephric duct and the mesonephric tubules. The ducts form first
What is the function of the mesonephric duct?
Induce the formation of the mesonephric tubules from the surrounding intermediate mesoderm
What do the mesonephric tubules form?
The renal corpuscles
What is the medial end of the mesonephric tubule called?
The glomerular capsule
What is the function of mesonephros? Does it produce urine?
Function as a kidney from week 6-10. Produces a small amount of urine
When does the mesonephros stop functioning?
Week 10
What is special about the mesopnephros in males?
Forms efferent ductules (sperm release)
When will the mesonephros degenerate by?
Week 12
When does the metanephros arise?
Week 5
What does the caudal end of each mesonephric duct induce?
The ureteric bud
What two structures make up the metanephros?
- ) Ureteric bud
2. ) Metanephric blastema
What is the ureteric bud an outgrowth of?
The mesonephric duct
What is the metanephric blastema formed from?
The nephrogenic cord
What does the metanephros form? When?
The functional kidney by the 9th-10th week
The ureteric bud penetrates the blastema to form what?
The renal pelvis
The stalk of the ureteric bud becomes what?
The ureter
The cranial portion of the ureteric bud becomes what?
Collecting tubules
