What are the initial symptoms of roseola?
Sudden high fever (often >39.5°C), sore throat, runny nose, cough, swollen lymph nodes in the neck, swollen eyelids, and loss of appetite lasting 3–5 days.
When does the roseola rash appear?
The rash appears as the fever subsides, typically after 3–5 days of fever.
What complications can roseola cause?
Febrile seizures in about 10–15% of cases; otherwise, it is usually a benign, self-limiting illness.
Describe the rash of roseola.
Pink or red small spots or patches, starting on the torso, then spreading to the face, neck, and limbs; usually not itchy or uncomfortable; lasts 1–2 days.
When should you seek urgent medical advice for a child with roseola?
If the child is under 3 months with a fever ≥38°C, fever lasting more than 5 days, refusing fluids, showing signs of dehydration, or has seizures.
How is roseola transmitted?
Through respiratory droplets and contact with contaminated surfaces; it spreads similarly to the common cold.
How is roseola treated?
Supportive care: rest, fluids, and fever relief with paracetamol or ibuprofen
