(15 cards)

1

2
Q

Some Benefits of the Spreading Activation Model

A
  1. This model can account for the typicality effect
  2. Activation spreads out along the paths of a network, but its effectiveness is decreased as it travels further (requires more effort)
    - Note that the longer the link, the farther and longer it takes to think of the second concept

Q

Findings of Meyer & Schvaneveldt

A
  • People were faster to responding to if the string of letters was a word if the response prior to it was related to it
  • Based on how slow or fast they respond tells us how close the word is

Q

What is a problem with the Spreading Activation Model?

Q

What is a Schema Integration?

A

Something that is added or newly integrated in a situation.
This shows that schemas can shift and be flexible
(Ex: A newly added group member)

What is a Schema Inconsistent?

A

Something that is usually not part of a situation, which can pop out more and be more memorable
(Ex: A picnic basket in an office)
