social learning theory approaches Flashcards
(14 cards)
what are the assumptions of the social learning theory
behaviour is learned through the enviornment, genes dont play a part, learned by observation.
what is identification
an individual is inspired by someone due to similar traits such as gender and ethnicity
what is imitation
this is when an individual observes a role model and copies them
what is modelling
observing the behaviour of a role model and copying them at a later time
what is vicarious reinforcement
an observer sees someone getting a reward and does the same actions as the person that was rewarded
what are the role of mediating processes
ATTENTION RETENTION MOTOR REPRODUCTION MOTIVATION
What is attention
what we observe on a daily basis
what is retention
when a memory of a behaviour is formed
what is motor reproduction
we are limited by our own behaviour
what is motivation
a desire to do the behaviour
what is the a01 for banduras bobo doll study
he gathered boys and girls that were 11 years old, had them watch a video of a man being aggressive with a bobo doll vs a woman being gentle with it
what did he find
the boys were aggressive with the dolls and the girls were gentle
what was the A03 for the study
fails to take biology into account- the boys have more testosterone than girls and are therefore more likely to be aggressive
unethical- children developed a harmful nature- goes against BPS guidlines
low ecological validity, the children are in a unfamiliar enviornment and may not act like how they usually would
experimental method-used lab experimen able to discover relationship between modelling and imitation
what is the evaluation of the SLT
supported by evidence
favours nurture side of the nature nurture debate
