14
Q

if you’re in terminal airspace but have comms failure, can you land at your planned airport?

A

no, since you’re in terminal airspace, you haven’t gotten clearance to enter the control zone yet. and since your mic doesn’t work, you won’t be able to get that clearance to enter. so you have to turn around or descend into uncontrolled airspace and go to another airport

24
Q

light signal on GROUND: flashing white

A

25
light signal on GROUND: blinking runway lights
get off the fucking runway
26
if you’re NORDO and have been following light signals from the tower, how do you acknowledge that you’ve accepted their clearance. day vs night
day = rock wings night = flash landing light
27
if you’re being intercepted, what frequency will the F18 military dude talk to you on?
121.5
28
if you’re taking off within or entering the ADIZ, what must you have on record
defense flight plan
29
for your defense flight plan to enter the ADIZ, you must tell them the location and time of entry. you must be within ____ NM of location and +/- ______ mins or else you need to update ATS
20 NM +/- 5 mins
30
what is ESCAT? if it’s real, who is Nav Canada under the control of? if you’re in uncontrolled airspace and ESCAT happens, what do you do? controlled airspace? are you able to fly during an ESCAT period?
emergency security control of air traffic plan nav canada under control of National Defense Command Centre (NDCC) uncontrolled - report position every 30 mins and land at nearest aerodrome controlled - follow ATC instructions can’t takeoff during escat without ATC approval
31
what is a Special Flight Operations Certificate (SFOC)? what are examples of what you need it for
form that TC gives you approval to do a special aviation event parachute descent in controlled airspace or over an assembly of people takeoff/land in the city (not an airport) aerobatic maneuvers in controlled airspace or below 2000 AGL flying a helicopter carrying class B,C,D loads over a built up area
32
what does your company’s minimum equipment list (MEL) tell you?
what instruments are allowed to be inoperative
33
t/f: where an AD is in conflict with an item listed in the MEL, the AD prevails
true if theres a defect for 1/2 generators, but the MEL says you need 2/2 generators then you can’t fly obv
34
if your company doesn’t have a MEL and an instrument gets removed, can you still fly?
you have to ensure that the instrument isn’t required by: - day/night VFR basic equipment - manufacturer MMEL - an AOC, private operator certificate, flight training unit (FTU), special flight operations certificate (SFOC)… - Airworthiness directive (AD)
35
t/f: the maintenance manager has the final say as to whether the plane is safe to fly
false the pilot has the final say
36
how often must a defect appear for it to be considered “recurring defect”. and when there is a recurring defect, what happens now?
reoccurs 3x within 15 flight segments aircraft now unserviceable and maintenance manager must permanently fix it
37
aviation accident vs incident
accident = injury/death, large plane damage, plane missing/inaccessable incident = engine failure, human stupidity, risk of collision, slung load released unintentionally, fire, etc
38
controllers give you traffic information based on your
track (not heading)
39
if theres no radar, what separation will ATC give you behind a large plane
2 mins
40
if ATC has radar and a heavy plane is less than 1000 ft below a heavy plane, what separation will they give
4 miles
41
if ATC has radar and a medium plane is less than 1000 ft below a heavy plane, what separation will they give
5 miles
42
if ATC has radar and a light plane is less than 1000 ft below a heavy plane, what separation will they give
6 mile
43
if ATC has radar and a light plane is less than 1000 ft below a medium plane, what separation will they give
4 mile
