circular muscle around eye, allows closing of eyes
orbiscularis oculi
circular muscle around mouth, allows you to make kissy face
medial rectus
allows adduction of the eye (look toward midline) can see nose if both eyes are adducting
temporalis
closing mouth and chewing, runs over temporal bone
masseter
temporal bone to mastoid, chewing
genioglossus
tounge
sternocleidomastoid
rotates the head
contract the L, neck looks right
contract both- touch chin to chest (flexion of the neck)
rectus abdominis
abs, go straight across the trunk in striations
erector spinae
deep muscles of the back to extend and laterally flex the spine
trapezius
insertion- occipital bone
retraction of the scapula
depresses the scapula
supraspinatus
posterior shoulder, forms part of rotator cuff
covers the head of the humerus to keep it in place
pectoralis major
upper limb muscle
anterior humerus muscle
adduction of the humerus
latissimus dorsi
insertion humerus
brings humerus backwards, extension of the humerus
deltoid
3 separate parts with separate movements
flexion, extension, abduction
function depends on the location of the muscle crossing the joint
triceps
inserts on olecranon process, extension elbow
