A

Inhibits reabsorption of sodium and chloride in the renal tubules (Loop of Henle, proximal, and distal renal tubules) thereby increasing urinary output (20 minute onset)

Causes venous pooling (5 minute onset) Decreases workload of the heart

A

Interactions: Increased risk of cardiac dysrhythmias if patient is taking Digitalis or Lithium

Onset in 5-10 minutes and can last 3 hours

Hearing loss and tinnitis are typically caused by a rapid IVP rather than a slow IVP

Assess lung sounds before and after administration, and frequently throughout patient contact

History of daily Furosemide use is important to ascertain as prehospital dosing is typically based on PO dose.
