A

Refractory VFIB/pulseless VTAC(ACLS)

Treatment for Torsades de Pointes (polymorphic VTAC)

Seizures associated with eclampsia and alcohol withdrawal

Dysrhythmias associated with digitalis toxicity

Bronchospasms refectory to traditional medications

Cardiovascular: dysrhythmias, bradycardia, hypotension, heart blocks

Neurological: drowsiness

Respiratory: decreased respiratory rate, respiratory paralysis

Magnesium Sulfate- EXTRAS

A

Precautions: Patients with renal insufficiency/disease (excreted through the kidneys)

Interactions: Other CNS depressants, digitalis and neuromuscular blockers

Onset in 3-5 minutes and may last 30 minutes

Calcium Chloride can be used as an antidote should respiratory depression occurs.

In clinical trials as a neuro-protective drug for CVA patients.
