What are the 6 characteristics life exhibits?
- Metabolism
- Organization
- Reproduction
- Response to stimuli
- Growth
- Adaptation/Evolution
What is the difference between Lamarckism vs. Darwinism?
- Lamarck would have thought that if you cut off the tail of a mouse, it would breed a tail-less mouse
- Darwin instead would say that if a tail-less mouse had a better survival rate, then they, through natural selection, would develop
What is the order of Taxonomy?
- Kingdom
- Phylum
- Class
- Order
- Family
- Genus
- Species
What is the Miller-Urey experiment?
The attempt to recreate the primitive Earth in the lab.
What is the difference between mass and weight?
- Mass measures how much space something takes up
- Weight measures its received effect from gravity
What are the core elements of life?
HONC.
What is the difference between a Prokaryote and a Eukaryote?
- Prokaryote does not have a nucleus
- Eukaryote does have a nucleus
What is the difference between temperature and heat?
- Temperature is the measure of the average kinetic energy of the molecules within an area
- Heat is the total kinetic energy of molecular motion in an object
Hydrogen bonding is what?
FON.
What is the cohesion of water?
Surface tension.
What is the adhesion of water?
Capillary action.
Where are the chlorines on a cis molecule?
The same side.
Where are the chlorines on a trans molecule?
The opposing side (diagonal if you will).
What does it mean to have chirality?
Non-super imposable images of two different structures (mirrored and can never be the same thing when turned or overlapped).
What is the Primary structure of a Protein?
Amino Acid sequence.
