4.3 SG Flashcards
(10 cards)
Explain the greenhouse effect and how humans affect it.
The greenhouse gas effect is when the greenhouse gases in the atmosphere reflect the infrared radiation back to earth warming the planet. Humans affect it because we release a lot of greenhouse gases like CO2 on the daily when we breath or drive a vehicle. So we have overtime increased the amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere causing the temperature to increase.
What are greenhouse gases important in our planet?
They are the reason the earth isn’t completely frozen.
What do ice cores tell us about CO2 and temperature?
They tell us that they have a direct relation because using the ice cores people found that they follow a similar pattern and determined that CO2 in the atmosphere affects the temperature so that when CO2 increases temperature does as well and same thing when CO2 decreases so does the temperature.
What is positive feedback?
It is when the final result amplifies the set point.
What is negative feedback?
It is when the final result negates the set point.
What is the difference between climate and weather?
Climate is the average temperature over a long period of time while weather is in a very short period of time.
How will climate change the further you get from the Equator?
The climate will continue to get colder as you get further away because you will be getting less direct sunlight.
In the phet simulation what happened when infrared radiation was directed at CO2?
The CO2 absorbed the infrared radiation and reflected it back.
Give an example of positive and negative feedback.
Negative- When someone eats sugar the glucose causes their blood sugar levels to increase and your body produces insulin so it decreases again.
Positive- When you don’t eat your blood sugar levels will decrease so your body will produce glucose and your blood sugar levels will raise again.
