– Loss of acid secretion (hypochlorhydria / achlorhydria)
– Loss of intrinsic factor
• Vitamin B12 deficiency
• Macrocytic anaemia (Pernicious anaemia)
• Associated with marked gastric atrophy and intestinal
metaplasia
• Increased risk of gastric cancer
• Serum antibodies to gastric parietal cells and intrinsic
factor
