TFD Station Captains and Facility Supervisors shall be responsible for

Ensuring that the officers who work in his/her station are familiar with the requirements of FIR 349

Class I Liquids (Flammable Liquids).

Liquids with a flash point below 100
degrees Fahrenheit (37.8 degrees Celsius).

Class II Liquids (Combustible Liquids)

Liquids with a flash point at or above
100 degrees Fahrenheit (37.8 degrees Celsius) and below 140 degrees Fahrenheit
(60 degrees Celsius).

TFD Battalion Chiefs shall conduct

monthly station and facility inspections
in accordance with TFD Policy 5012.

What clearance shall be maintained around apparatus and vehicles parked in the fire station.

Where station dimensions permit, three (3) feet of clearance

Emergency eye wash stations with refillable tanks shall be

a. Positioned within 50 feet of the hazard, requiring no more than 10 seconds to reach

b. Readily available, accessible and free of obstruction, with no storage in, on or around the unit

c. Initially set up in accordance with manufacturer recommendations

d. Maintained weekly and every six months in accordance with the guidelines set forth in this document

Emergency eye wash stations with refillable tanks shall be wall mounted so that

a. The flushing nozzles are not less than 33 inches and no greater than 45 inches above the floor

b. There is a minimum of six inches from the nearest obstruction

Plumbed eye wash stations and/or emergency showers shall be

a. Activated weekly and inspected annually for proper function

b. Readily available, accessible and free of obstruction, with no storage in, on or around the unit

All equipment and tools used in TFD stations and facilities, including
abrasive wheels and grinders, shall be properly installed and have guards in place as required by

WAC 296-806 and 296-807.

Work rests shall be kept adjusted sufficiently close to the work with a
maximum opening of

one-eighth inch to prevent the work from being jammed between the wheel and the rest.

Reusable emergency medical supplies and equipment shall not be stored in

the kitchen, living, sleeping, personal hygiene areas and/or personal lockers
at TFD stations and facilities.

Poles in Stations:
Equipment shall not be placed or stored within a radius of

three (3) feet from the sliding pole or its opening.

Poles in Stations:
Each pole shall have in place at its bottom a

cushioned rubber mat or equivalent three (3) feet in diameter to provide shock absorption for firefighters sliding the pole.

When engaged in window washing,TFD personnel shall follow the guidelines set forth in

WAC 296-24

Eye wash station
Initial Set up

a. Rinse and fill the unit with clear tap water to the fill line
b. Obtain “Redi-Sep” solution from the Fire Garage
c. Add one bottle of “Redi-Sep” solution
d. Do not use any other solutions in the unit
e. Test operation with a 5-second flush
f. Attach the weekly inspection tag

a. Test operation with a 15 second flush
b. Do not use any chemicals or cleaning agents in or on the unit
c. Replace the solution immediately if there is any discoloration of or particulates in the solution following the initial Set up steps above
d. Refill tank to the fill line with clean tap water
e. Date and sign the attached inspection tag
