A
  • prevent conversion of ANGIOTENSIN 1->2
  • Ang II is a vasoconstrictor and stimulates ALDOSTERONE secretion
  • blocking its action reduces PVR and afterload which lower BPS

ACE INHIBITORS: ADVERSE EFFECTS

A
  • Hypotension
  • Persistent dry cough (increased levels of bradykinin)
  • Hyperkalaemia (low levels of aldosterone promotes pottassium retention)
  • Worsen renal failure
  • Angiodema
  • Anaphylactictoid rxns
