what is the difference between anti coagulants and antiplatelets ?
anti coagulants - block fibrin production
anti platlelts stop the action of platelets

there is inhibition of cyclooxygenas ewhich in turn decreass the production of thromboxane 2 and decreases platelet activation and function
also inhibits the production of prostaglandins

NSAIDs reversibly block COX-1 nd COX 2
aspirin is irreversible

coronary disease

bleeding

when is clopidogrel used ?
when there is an allergy to aspirin

TTP
what is the MOA of ticagrelor ?
reversible antagonist of P2y12 receptor
what is the advantage tht ticagrelor has over clopidogrel ?
it can be washed out better because it is reversible unlike clopidogrel
it is not associated with TTP
what is the main side effect associated with ticagrelor ?
dyspnea
what is the MOA of PDE inhibitors ?
these drugs inhibit phosphodiestrase 3 in platelets
PDE breaks down cAMP
an increase in cAMP is associated with lower platelet activity
