hodgkin lymphoma Flashcards
(17 cards)
what is sezary syndrome ?
aggressive form of cutaneous T cell lymphoma
caused by HTLV virus
what is seen in the peripheral blood stream in sezary syndrome?
cerebriform shaped T cell in the blood stream
what is the classic presentation associated with sezary syndrome ?
erythroderma of the skin
what are the general symptoms associated with lymphomas ?
b symptoms - fever, chills and night sweats
histologically what differentiates hodgkin from non hodgkin lymphomas ?
reed sternberg cells are found in hodgkin lymphomas
what are the CD for reed sternberg cells and what is the appearance ?
CD 15 and CD 30 , owl eye appearance
what is the cell composition associated with hodgkin lymphomas ?
reed sternberg cells are the minortiy the rest are just cells reacting to the cytokines released by the RSC
why is there hypercalcemia in association with hodgkin lymphoma ?
activation of macrophage allows for the release of 1 alpha hydroxylase which activates vitamin D and in turn increases calcium levels
what is the classic scenario associated with hodgkin lymphomas ?
a patient presenting with a unilateral facial/neck mass along with a mediastinal lymphadenopathy
what type of hodgkin lymphoma is associated with women ?
the nodular sclerosing type
what infection is associated with hodgkins lymphoma ?
EBV
what is the prognosis of Hodgkin lymphoma dependent on ?
the number of reed sternberg cells - the more RS the worse the prognosis
stage is the strongest predictor of prognosis
what is the age distribution associated with hodgkin ?
bimodal
what cells are predominant in lymphocyte predominant hodgkin lymphoma ?
rare variant - malignant LP cells also called popcorn cells
what CD is expressed in lymphocyte predominant hodgkin lymphoma ?
CD 20
what is the association with non hodgkin lymphomas ?
mostly associated with autoimmune disease
what is the treatment for hodgkin lymphoma ?
ABVD
