Physiological needs->security->social needs-> esteem->self actualization

A need or desire that energizes behavior and directs it towards a goal
What are the different types of motivation?
Huger
Sexual
Social
Achievement
Drive reduction theory
Motivated to do something to reduce something
Instinct
Complex behavior that is rigidly patterned throughout a species and is unlearned
Animals vs humans
Humans are flexible animals are fixed

And aroused related to a physical need such as hunger or thirst

Arousal levels can help performance but too much arousal can interfere with performance
What’s the motive behind maslows hierarchy of needs?
Maslow proposed that humans need to strive to ensure basic needs are satisfied then they find motivation to pursue goals that are higher on this hierarchy
