Theodosius declared Christianity the official religion of the Roman Empire. Theodosius said any form of paganism was illegal. All religions except Christianity is illegal.

Describe the conflict between Ambrose and Theodosius. How was it resolved?
Ambrose delivered a famous sermon against state interference in religious matters. When Theodosius slaughtered a city’s inhabitants, Ambrose demanded public repentance from the emperor or else would withhold the Eucharist.
Describe Augustine’s early life. Who was his mother, and what religion did she follow? What is Manichaeism?
Augustine was a wild man at age 16, he was associated with a group known as “the wreckers”. His mother, Monica, was a Christian and his father was a pagan. Later he became a Manichaean, a gnostic belief system that split the world between good god and evil god.
What did Augustine realize about our peace and Happiness?
He came to the realization that lasting peace and happiness can be found in our relationship with God.
