What is a gross skill
-Large muscle movements using large muscle groups which are not very precise
-e.g. Shot put
What is a fine skill
-Intricate movements using small muscle groups which tend to be precise
-e.g. darts throw
What is an open skill
-A skill affected by the environment
-e.g. A pass in a football match
What is a closed skill
-A skill not affected by the environment
-e.g free throw in basketball
What is a discrete skill
-A brief, well defined action that has a clear beginning and end
-e.g. A penalty flick in hockey
What is a Serial skill
-A group of discrete skills strung together to make a new and complex movement
-e.g The sequence of skills for the triple jump
What is a Continuous skill
-No obvious beginning and end where the skill is repeated
-e.g. running
What is a internally/self paced skill
-The performer controls the rate at which the skill is executed
e.g Javelin throw
What is an externally paced skill
-The environment controls the rate of performing the skill
-e.g Rugby tackle
What is a simple skill
-Few judgements and decisions made
-e.g Sprinting
What is a complex skill
-Many judgements and decisions
-e.g. tennis serve
What is a low organisation skill
-Sub routines are easy to separate
-e.g. swimming strokes

-Cannot be broken down and practiced
-e.g. cartwheel
