What is a Group
-A collection of people who share similar goals and interact with one another
What is the forming stage
-High dependence on leader for guidance
-Group members are getting to know each other
-Very little agreement on the aims of the team
-Individual roles are unclear
What is the storming stage
-Group decisions are difficult
-Team members are establishing themselves in the group
-Cliques form and there may be power struggles
-Stronger manager is needed to guide team through this stage
What is the norming stage
-Agreement in team
-Roles and responsibilities are accepted
-Decisions are made through group agreement
-Strong sense of commitment and unity
What is the performing stage
-More strategies, a clear vision and aim
-Focus is on achieving goals
-Team does not need to be instructed or assisted
-No interference of participation from the leader

Actual productivity=potential productivity-losses dues to faulty processes
What are the losses due to faulty processes
1) Coordination problems
2) Motivational problems
What is the ringelman effect
Occurs when individual performances decrease as group sizes increase
What is social loafing
Some individuals in a group losing motivation due to the individual losing identity when placed in a group
