A leader selected from outside the group

Advantages = New voice, new ideas can remotivate players
Negatives = Doesn’t understand group dynamics

-Leader makes decisions, task orientated
-used for: Large groups, Dangerous activities, low ability, Males

-Leader delegates responsibility, Social/relationship orientated
-Used for: Small groups, Safe activities, High ability, Females
What is the Laissez Faire style
-Group makes all decisions, leader stand aside
-Used for: High ability groups with high motivation
What is the trait theory of leadership
Proposes that leadership qualities are stable and enduring, innate predispositions to act in the same way in all situations
What is the social learning theory of leadership
Proposes that leadership qualities are learnt as a result of the environment, imitation of significant and social reinforcement
What is the interactionist leadership theory
-An individual may have certain in born traits, but they are not evident unless a situation demands the leadership behaviour
