What is part practice
-Working on an isolated sub routine with the aim of perfecting it
-e.g. just practising back swing in tennis swing
What is whole practice
-Skills being taught without breaking down into subroutines or parts
-e.g. Golf swing
What is Whole-part-whole practice
-Practising the whole skill, then practising sub routine in isolation, then whole skill again
-e.g. whole swimming stroke, focus on legs in isolation, whole swimming stroke
What is progressive-part practice
-Skills are broken down into sub routines. Performer learns one link, then a second link and practices these, then further links are added (chaining)
-e.g. triple jump
What is massed practice
-Practice session involves very short or no rest intervals
-e.g basketball player continually practising shooting from different areas
What is distributed practice
-Practice session with rest intervals
-e.g swimmer swims a width then has a rest while coach gives feedback
What is fixed practice
-A specific movement pattern is practiced repeatedly in a stable environment
-e.g Discuss thrower practising in a discuss circle with the same weight
What is varied practice
When a skill is practised in many environments
-e.g small sided game in football, where the performer can work on passing, positional play and strategy
