-Sporting context is the sporting situation that is currently in front of the performer
-Trait sports confidence is the innate level of self-belief an individual has in sport
-Competitive orientation is the competitiveness of an individual to take on set goals and take risks
-State sports confidence is the learned self-belief an individual has in a specific sporting context
-State sports confidence is affected by the level of trait sports confidence and competitive orientation of a performer
-If an individual has a high level of trait sports confidence and a high level of competitive orientation, this will lead to a higher state sports confidence
-State sports confidence will influence the actual behaviour produced in the specific sporting situation
-High state sports confidence will lead to a skillful and successful performance
-Low state sports confidence will lead to a poor performance
Explain Bandura’s model of self-efficacy
-Performance accomplishments- past experiences will determine an individual’s level of self-efficacy; positive past experiences will lead to good self-efficacy and negative past experiences will lead to poor self-efficacy
-Vicarious reinforcement- seeing other people around you succeed and fail can determine a person’s self-efficacy, especially if the people are a similar age/ ability to you
-Verbal persuasion- What is spoken to the performer that can affect self-efficacy e.g if the performer has received positive feedback from a coach it may improve their confidence
-Emotional arousal- If the individual has good techniques to control arousal, they will have better self-efficacy e.g if an individual is aware that high arousal does not always mean a poor performance so does not always try to hinder it
Behavioural response- these four factors will determine the response of an individual in a specific sporting situation; low self-efficacy will lead to a poor performance and high self-efficacy will lead to a skillful and successful performance
-The more components that are positive, the better the chance of good self efficacy, and vice versa
