Why are goals important
A
-Goals are important for attentional focus and task persistence
-Goals help to raise self confidence and self-efficacy
-Help to monitor performance

Why may goals not always be effective
A
-If goals are not specific then the performer cannot fully focus on them
-Goals that are not measurable may lead to a loss of motivation
-Goals may be unrealistic and therefore unachievable, leading to a reduction in motivation
-If goals are not recorded then it is difficult to monitor progress
-Goals that are too long/ short or too easy/hard can cause boredom or loss of motivation
