Learning theories Flashcards
(7 cards)
Cognitive learning theory
-Learning is best achieved when learned as a whole
-Learning takes place in realistic, often game-based situations
-Learning through problem solving
-Learning uses past experiences to aid correct decision making
Cognitive theory adv
+ Can be adapted and applied to sports better
+ Can develop a deeper and better understanding of situations
+ Practicing skills as a whole develops a kinaesthetic feel
Cognitive theory disadv
-Cannot be applied to dangerous or complex skills
-Some performers may not have past experiences to draw upon
Observational learning
Attention
Retention
Motor reproduction
Motivation
Factors affecting observational learning at each stage
Attention- attractiveness of the model, similarity to the model, status of the model, role model
Retention- if the demonstration is repeated, if mental rehearsal occurs
Motor reproduction- if important cues are explained
Motivation- if incentives are present, if reinforcement is given to the performer
Operant conditioning
-Behaviour shaping through stimulus response bonds
-Lots of trial and error
-Throndikes laws
Eval operant conditioning
+ Quick way to learn new skills
+ Good way for young people when they recieve reinforcement it increases their confidence
-leads to not being able to adapt performance
-Overeliance on praise
