To keep something secret

- To be used fairly, lawfully and transparently
- In a way that is lawful, adequate and relevant
- To be retained for no longer than necessary
- Processed securely
What are the personal rights under the Data Protection Act?
- To be informed about how data is being used
- The right to access their data
- The right to have incorrect data updated
- To have their data erased
- To stop / restrict processing of data
- The right of portability
- To object to the use of data

Manages how personal data is processed by organisations
Who are the key persons under the Data Protection Act?
- Controller - determines the purposes and means of processing
- Processor - a person that processes personal data on behalf of the controller
