What is an inclusive environment?
An environment that welcomes and supports all people, regardless of their protected characteristics
What are the types of discrimination?
- Direct
- Indirect
- Harassment
- Victimisation
What does the Equality Act state?
It is unlawful for property managers and those acting in an agency capacity to discriminate
Reasonable adjustments are required if a disabled person would be at a substantial advantage
What must a property manager do, when faced with an obstacle causing obstruction to a disabled person?
- Remove or alter the obstacle
- Provide means of alternatives / ways to avoid
What are the tests of reasonableness?
- Effectiveness of adjustment
- Cost
- Practicality
- Resources available
What is cultural change?
The process of transforming an organisation’s values/beliefs/behaviours and assumptions
What is economic inequality?
The unequal distribution of wealth in society
What is social cohesion?
The extent to which individual’s within a society are connected
What is gentrification?
The transformation of a low value area to a high value area
What are auxiliary aids/services?
Supplemental equipment/devices to help individuals with disabilities participate e.g braille
How does the NPPF define inclusive environments?
Designing the built environment to ensure that buildings/spaces can be accessed and used by everyone
What does Doc M of the building regulations cover?
The access and use of buildings
What is the Public Sector Equality Duty?
A legal requirement in the UK for public authorities to consider how their policies and decisions impact individuals protected under the act
What is the ‘Changing Places’ Campaign?
Places that are more hygienic, safer and well-equipped for disabled people
