What is the ‘safe person’ concept?
The concept that an individual is responsible for their own, their colleagues and other people’s behaviour.

What is the purpose of the H & S at Work Act 1974?
Places a duty on employers to, as far as reasonably possible, ensure the health, safety and well being of employees

Identifies the hazard and provides a step-by-step process on how it will be approached safely - with control measures

What does RIDDOR stand for?
Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Hazardous to Health
What is an employers duty under RIDDOR?
- If employee incapacitated for more than 7 days = report to HSE within 15 days
- If employer incapacitated for more than 3 days = keep written record
Records to be held for 3 years
What does the Fire Safety Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 stipulate?
Introduces the responsible person who is responsible for ensuring fire safety
Part B of building regs
Emphasis on fire prevention - non-domestic property
What is the Fire Safety Act 2021?
Reforms Fire Safety Regulatory Reform Order as this covers multi-occupied residential buildings too
Put emphasis on responsible persons to address, manage and reduce fire risks
What is a EWS?
External Wall Systems - EWS1 form required to ensure external walls have been assessed for safely. Implemented after Grenfell. Valid for 5 years.
What is the Building Safety Act 2022?
To enhance regulations for building safety and to ensure that residents have a stronger voice when it comes to building safety. For high rise residential buildings

What are the penalties for non-compliance with the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012?
Max. fine of £20,000 and imprisonment of up to 12 months

What steps must the duty holder take under the Control of Asbestos Regulations?
1) Assess whether the premises contains asbestos
2) Assess the risk and produce an asbestos management plan
3) Produce asbestos register
4) make this available to all parties
5) Regularly review this.
What are the CDM Regulations?
Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015
Criminal offence to breach
Relates to the H & S during the design and management of all commercial building projects
What is the aim of the CDM Regulations?
To improve the management and co-ordination of H & S of all stages of a construction project
What is classed as a notifiable project (and when an F10 is required)?
If a project:
- Takes more than 30 consecutive days
and has more than 20 workers
Or 500 person days
What does COSHH stand for?
Control of Substances Hazardous to Health
What does CSCS stand for?
Construction Skills Certification Scheme
