-Salicylic acid (SebaLyt shampoo, KeraSolv gel)
(Good for hyperkaratosis)

-Coal tar (Lytar shampoo, Mycodex Tar and Sulfur shampoo)
(Stains light haircoats; toxic in cats)

For seborrhea oleosa:
-Benzoyl peroxide (Pyoben gel, OxyDex)

  • Acute moist dermatitis (“hot spots”, superficial pyoderma)
  • Selenium sulfide (Seleen Plus shampoo, Selsun Blue shampoo)

Pruritis=itching
-provide temporary and mild relief

  • Topical anesthetics- end in –aine; (Xylocaine, ResiPROX)

Linoleic (omega-6) and linolenic (omega-3) can not be synthesized in the dog, arachidonic acid can not be synthesized in the cat and so are essential fatty acids
