Anorexia Nervosa Diagnostic Criteria
- Persistent restriction of energy intake leading to low body weight
- Intense fear of weight gain
- Disturbance in how weight/shape is perceived, influence of weight/shape on self-evaluation
Subtypes: - Restricting type (AN-R)
- Binge-eating/purging type (AN-BP)
Anorexia Epidemiology
- 10 to 1 females
- adolescence to early 20s
- Varied Course
- Comorbidity with anxiety depression OCD
- Highest death rate
Bulimia Nervosa Criteria
(A): Recurrent binge eating episodes
(B): Compensatory behaviour to prevent weight gain
(C): Once a week for 3 months
(D): Self-evaluation
Purging vs non-purging subtype
Bulimia Epidemiology
- 10 to 1 again
- More common than anorexia
- Sometimes preceded by AN
Varied Course
Depression anxiety substance use
Binge Eating Disorder Criteria
(A): Recurrent binge-eating
(B): 3+ of:
- Eating more rapidly
- Eating until discomfort
- Large amount of food when not hungry
- Eating alone due to embarrassment
- Depressed/guilty after over-eating
BED Epidemiology
Less sex difference
OSFED (Other specified feeding or eating disorder)
- Atypical Anorexia Nervosa -> weight in normal range
- Purging Disorder -> Bulimia with no binge eating
- Night Eating Syndrome -> night eating
Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder Criteria
(A): Persistent failure to meet nutritional/energy needs associated with 1+ of:
- Weight loss
- Nutritional deficiency
- Dependence on other forms of nutrients
- Interference with psychosocial functioning
(B): Nothing else
(C): No disturbance in body-image
Pica Criteria
(A): Eating non food substances for 1+ month
(B): Inappropriate to individual smartness
(C): Not culturally supported
Rumination Disorder Criteria
Repeated regurgitation of food 1+ month
Orthorexia
Not dsm 5 but clean eating turned into eliminating food groups
