What is the course of PTSD?
Most people dont show symptoms after the event, and those that do are likely to recover, but a significant amount is still chronic.
PTSD Epidemiology
Minorities more, women more(20-30% rather than 8-13% after exposure), women more sexual, men more violent.
PTSD Risk Factors
Pre-event, peri-event, post-event
Cognitive Behavioural Model of PTSD
Predisposing factors affect TRAUMA and trauma memory and negative mood caused by trauma which result in current threats (intrusions etc) and dysfunctional strategies
PTSD Treatment
Promotes emotional engagement -> modifying erroneous cognitions -> modifying associated distress
Complex PTSD
Not in the DSM but is basically just PTSD that is not solely triggered by event-related stuff u just get kinda fkd in general
Adjustment Disorder Criteria
(A): Development of emotional/behavioural symptoms in response to stressors within 3 months of the onset of stressors
(B): Causes distress or impairs functioning
(C): Does not meet criteria of another disorder
(D): Not normal bereavement
(E): Once the stressors terminated the emotions/behaviours go away within 6 months

- Mix of the two
- Disturbance of conduct
- Mix of emotions and conduct
- Unspecified
THE CORE SYMPTOM IS PREOCCUPATION
