Experimental research and Test Marketing Flashcards
(12 cards)
What does the quasi experimental design lack?
Contorls of extraneous variables, therefor cannot be classified as a true experiment.
What is the other type of experimental design?
True
What are the Quasi Experimental designs?
- One-shot design
- One-group pretest-posttest design
- Static group design
What is one shot design?
A single group of test subjects is exposed to the independent variable treatment x and a single measurement is taken.
x O1
What is a one group pretest-posttest design?
First, a pre-treatment measure of the dependent variable is taken (O1), then exposed to the independent treatment X and then post-treatment measure of the variable is taken O2
01 x 02
What is a static group design?
There are two groups of test subjects, one is experimental group and exposed to the independent treatment and the second group is the control group is not given the treatment.
Group 1: x 01
Group 2: 02
What are the true experimental designs?
- pretest-posttest, control group design (before-after with control)
- Posttest only control group design
- Solomon four group
What is the pretest-posttest, control group design?
Test subjects are randomly assigned to either the experimental or control group, and each group recieves a pre-treatment measure of the dependent variable. Then the independent treatment is exposed to the experimental group, after which both groups receive a post-treatment measure of the dependent variable.
(EG) O1 X O2
(CG) O3 O4
What is the posttest-only, control group design?
Test subjects are randomly assigned to either the experimental or the control group. The experimental group is then exposed to the independent treatment, after which both groups receive a post-treatment measure of the dependent variable.
(EG) x O1
(CG) O2
What is the solomon four group?
This design combines the pretest-posttest control group and posttest only control group designs and provides both direct and reactive effects of testing.
What is the time series design?
- An experimental design is used when experiments are conducted over long periods of time. It allows researches to distinguish between temporary and permanent changes in dependent variables
O1 O2 O3 X O4 O5 O6
What is debriefing?
The process of disclosing the nature and purpose of the experiment after it is completed.
