Multivariate statistical analysis (analysis of dependence) Flashcards
(14 cards)
What is Multivariate Analysis?
Statistical analysis involving the simultaneous investigation of more than two variables
What is the difference between dependence and interdependence techniques?
- Dependence explain or predict dependent variables based on independent variables
- Interdependence techniques group variables or cases together without clear dependent variables
When would you use partial correlation analysis?
- To measure the association between two variables after controlling for the effects of other variables
What is an n-way cross tabulation?
A table analyzing relationships between two categorical variables while controlling for a third or more categorical variable.
Define n-way univariate ANOVA
A statistical method testing differences in a metric-dependent variable across two or more non-metric independent variables simultaneously
What does multiple regression analysis investigate?
The simultaneous effect of two or more independent variables on one interval-scaled dependent variable
What is multicollinearity?
When independent variables in multiple regression are correlated with each other causing unreliable parameter estimates
What is Binary logistic regression?
A regression method used to predict a binary (two-category) dependent variable based on two or more independent metric variables
When analysing regression outputs, what are standardized coefficents used for?
To compare which independent variable has the greatest relative influence on the dependent variable
In regression, what does the coefficent of determination represent?
The proportion of variation in the dependent variable explained by all the independent variables
When should you use binary logistic regression instead of multiple linear regression?
When predicting a categorical dependent variable from metric independent variables
Give an example of an analysis of dependence
Examining how advertising level, product distribution, and pricing infleunce sales
Why is the measurement scale important in multivariate analysis?
It determines which statistical technique is appropriate for analysing data
If independent variables are correlated with each other in multiple regression, what problem arises?
- Multicollienarity, leading to unreliable results
