Fuel Pool Cooling Flashcards

1
Q

WHat is the purpose of FPC?

A

To provide high clariity filtered demin water to pools and remove decay heat released by irrdiated fuel
Maintain pool temp below 141F (half offload (150F full offload)) to minimize release of IODINE
Remove radioactivity release to water during normal handling of fuel
MAINTAIN AIRBORNE RAD LEVELS w/in limits using ventilation

Q

What are teh FPC Skimmer Surge Tanks?

A

Take water from the Fuel Pool (and other pools if connected) via weirs and provide NPSH to FPC pumps
This is where condensate transfer make up connects
No isolation

Q

What can be done if Condensate transfer is not available to FPC Surge tanks?

A

BY HOSE - makeup from: (in order of preference):
1 ) Contaminated demin hose station
2) Clean demin hose station via clean demin pumps
3) Clean demin hose station w/ iso condenser M/U Pumps
4) Fire water via hose
5 Hi volume makeup from U2 only condensate Pp discharge header

16
Q

What are the FPC pump Trips?

A
Lo Lo level in surge tank (17")
Lo Pump Suction Pressure (<5psig) - bypass by holding start switch
Hi filter inlet pressure >150psig
Bus Undervoltage
RMS 9 overcurrent
17
Q

What are the design temperature limits for the FPC Hx?

A

maintain water temp at 141F max for partial core offload and 150F max for full core offload

18
Q

What feeds the tube and shell sides of the FPC Hx?

A

Fuel Pool water on tube side, RBCCW on shell side

19
Q

What alarm points are on the FPC Hx?

A

Hi Temp - 115F

20
Q

What is the design requirement for the clarity of the FPC water maintained by the Filters?

A

1/4” letter read under 25’ of water using binoculars

21
Q

How much water normally bypasses the FPC Filters?

A

~ 250gpm

22
Q

How does the FPC Flow contoller fail?

A

Fails closed on loss of air and completely bypasses filter and demin offline

23
Q

How many FPC Demineralizers are normally in service?

A

None - normally run for 96 hrs per month based on chemistry

24
Q

Where are teh FPC Demins located?

A

ALL ARE LOCATED ON 589 U2 side

25
Q

What alarms are associated with the FPC Demins?

A

Hi DP - 20psid

26
Q

What is the Fuel Pool Trouble Alarm?

A

Filter flow below 320 gpm
Filter Dp above 30 psid
Demin Outlet conductivity above 1.8 umho/cm

27
Q

What is done with excess FPC volume?

A

rejected to “A” CST - BOTH UNITS do this

28
Q

What is different between refuel and normal op Fuel Pool Reject?

A

Normally maintianed by openign 51 valve and AOV 57 vlv to A CST via LPCI/CS suction line
Ducting refuel - RWCU may control level by blowdown to condenser because of CRD cooling flow cuasing level to rise

29
Q

How does the FPC water return to FP?

A

Inlet via 2 lines that go below water line -
This is an ANIT SIPHON line with holes drilled into it to prevent siphoning the fuel pool during potential return line break

30
Q

How does SDC aid FPC?

A

During periods of high head load (refuel) one SDC train connected to provide added cooling.

31
Q

What needs to be done during the start of a Fuel Pool Cooling Pump?

A

May have to bypass the low suction trip (LIANG MOD)
